Life’s Golden – Drake’s Memorial Marathon

March 8th will mark one year without my best bud Drake at my side, our time together cut far too short at just 8 ¼ years old due to cancer (hemangiosarcoma). Those two words haunt me daily, and my promise to Drake is to keep telling his and our story in an effort to help others by raising money for Czar’s Promise and giving as Drake did so selflessly daily.

If you’re unfamiliar with Czar’s Promise, they are a grassroots non-profit located right here in Wisconsin. Their mission is to provide financial resources for cancer treatment and research for pets and children alike. Drake had a deep love for other dogs and children, and this organization perfectly aligns with his values. I’ve known the founder, Beth, for over a year now, and while I wish we had never met, it has been an absolute privilege to contribute to the great work she and the rest of the Czar’s Promise team are doing.

Last year with incredible support we surpassed my $7,500 fundraising goal. This year is a significant year for me, and I hope with your support, we can raise the bar and exceed $10,000. All of my racing efforts will be focused on raising funds for Czar’s Promise. As of now, this includes two world major marathons: the Boston marathon on April 20th and Chicago marathon October 11th.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has considered and generously supported my efforts.
Life’s Golden <3

On October 24th, 2016 God brought into the world a 5lb 10oz baby boy golden retriever. In 8 weeks, this fluff ball became known as "Drake" and immediately began capturing the hearts of everyone. Drake was an angel undercover, a constant and loyal companion, and a best friend. Drake brought so much happiness, purpose, love, and smiles to all. He was a larger than life persona - a true legend. His admirers treated him like a celebrity every chance they got.

Drake lived life as we all should - by treating each day like the absolute gift that it is. He would want us to all live life a little more like he did. Let's celebrate Drake with a drink on the patio or your favorite spot, say hi to a stranger, go for a walk, be present with loved ones, give more than you receive, smile everyday, and never give up. That's how Drake lived his life, and that's a life worth living because Life's Golden.

On behalf of Drake and I, thank you for reading our story and for your support. No words do justice to describe how special Drake was and will always be to me and many others. What I will say is that Life's Golden and I will continue to do all that I can to honor my best friend always and forever <3

CZAR'S PROMISE

It began as a love story; the attraction, immediate. In 2001, a small white fluffball with an infectious smile that had me at "hello", came bounding full steam ahead and into my arms; and yes, that was all it took.
