2019 Recipients

As we REFLECT upon the past 12 months of Czar's Promise, it is with such humbled honor to witness the unity which you, our community, has shown in supporting local companion animals in their fight against cancer.

The IMPACT of your generosity is reflected in the beautiful faces below. Each of these incredibly loved pups were one of our many 2019 recipients in which they received chemotherapy treatment because of the kindness shown from you, our supporters.

Meet Bacon:

Over time, we have shared with you heartfelt stories of companion animals which you have helped support as they travel their cancer journey.

Bacon, was a handsome and lovable Boston Terrier, who we featured several times as he began and completed his chemotherapy treatments and celebrated being cancer free.

Sadly, in August, Bacon passed away in the arms of his family. His dad, Mark, shares this deeply touching tribute to "Remembering Bacon" about his zest for life, love and his passing.

On behalf of our entire Czar's Promise organization, we extend our deepest sympathies to Mark, Laurie, and their companion Mac, in the passing of such a hero.

Mark says he can't express enough how much the Czar's Promise community helped us through Bacon's chemotherapy, and how much love you showed our family when we lost him in August. Your work makes a huge difference to people who really need help to stay steady in an emotionally trying time.

Meet K9 Officer Keto:

It is an honor to share that K9 Officer Keto of the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office, who was diagnosed with Lymphoma in August, has just completed 16 rounds of chemotherapy treatments!

And what is totally pawsome? K9 Officer Keto and his handler, Lieutenant Todd Cummings, have continued to serve and protect the citizens of Manitowoc County throughout his entire treatment protocol! Big Woofs to you Keto!

Keto, on behalf of Czar's Promise and those who support us, we hold all paws up for continued recovery. We THANK YOU for your service! You give true meaning to "Inspiring Hope".

It is an honor to serve you, and we wish you ALL the best!

Meet Miss Rogue:

This beautiful lady with ribbons in her hair was diagnosed with melanoma several years ago, underwent an amputation of the toe, chemotherapy and other treatments, and just last month, took a 7-mile hike with her mom, Laura Patterson to one of the highest points in Dane County. When she reached the top, the photo shows Rogue throwing her head back, with a smile from floppy ear to floppy ear, with such pride in her accomplishment!

Rogue, you give true meaning to Inspiring Hope. May you keep kicking cancer to the curb for many hikes and miles to come!

Meet Elliott:

Elliott is one of the many companion animals we’ve been able to help. He has completed his chemotherapy treatment for dermal hemangiosarcoma and we’re happy to report he’s doing GREAT! Elliott is back to enjoying his hikes through the woods with his family.

Elliott and his human companions were awarded one of our 2019 Cooper Cares Project This unique and caring gift from Dog Grin Photography provides an uber cool and memorable outdoor photo experience with a special canine who has been diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment. Elliott, who has completed chemotherapy treatment for dermal hemangiosarcoma, enjoyed a fall day full of fun, photos and memories with his moms, which will be captured in a table top book filled with a lifetime of joyful memories. The Cooper Cares project is a very special gift from Tammy Nelson, whose canine companion, Cooper, passed away from cancer in 2018. This project, is Tammy's way to memorialize Cooper, and also bring a once in a lifetime gift to those in this cancer fight.

Thank you Steve Dahlgren, Roseanne Opsahl Dahlgren, and Tammy Nelson, for making the Cooper Cares Project possible!

And Elliott, way to rock the fancy bandanna!

CZAR'S PROMISE

It began as a love story; the attraction, immediate. In 2001, a small white fluffball with an infectious smile that had me at "hello", came bounding full steam ahead and into my arms; and yes, that was all it took.
